Hire Band Or DJ For Your Special Event?
There’s one truth you’ll discover soon enough if you just opened a bar, if you’re having a wedding, if you’re holding a block party, and that is: Where there is live music, there will be people. There’s no better way to boost attendance than to hire band to play a show for the crowd.
The funny thing is, even a bad band will attract a lot of people. Have you ever been to a bar where a local band is playing, and they really kind of stink, but there are dozens of people in the cramped barroom, and they seem to be having fun in spite of the band’s mediocrity? Obviously, you’re going to be hiring a talented band for your event, but we mention this to make the point that it’s not really about the quality or genre of the music itself. Whether you’re hiring a country and western group, a jazz quartet or a four piece rock band, the fact remains that live music puts butts in seats, as the old showbiz expression goes.
Music has always held an important role in the development of the human species. Ever since we were living in caves, music has driven every facet of human life and culture. In tribal culture, drum circles and other musical traditions are carried on to commemorate a successful hunt or to mark a ritual. In the more developed world, we’re never without our tunes: We keep the radio on at work all day, we put music on our cell phones, we listen to it in the car and we go to the bars to watch the local bands on weekends, even if we’re not expecting them to be all that great.
The most important aspect of music is its social element. Like we said: Where there’s music, there will always be people. Without Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, we highly doubt that the baby boom would have been such a big boom.
A live music show is what a marketing expert might call a great lure. It brings people in. From there, it’s up to you to keep them interested. Obviously, a car lot that brings in some Rock and Roll to draw the crowd isn’t going to make so many sales if they don’t have good deals to go along with it. But the fact remains, a live show does bring’em in.
Whenever you’re trying to bring in a crowd, whether you’re holding a company picnic, a public event, a big sale, or you just want to boost attendance at your bar or coffee shop, a live band is guaranteed to do the trick. People will always turn out for a live show.
Now, of course, the better the band, the bigger a crowd you can expect to see at your event, but the fact remains that any music at all will bring more people in than a few fliers and a face painting booth. Music drives human culture, with no music, there are no parties, with no music, there really is no event in the first place.
In public relations and in marketing, people are always trying to come up with great new lures, new ideas to bring in bigger crowds, but they have yet to top the drawing power of live music.
